Thinning of the Veil…

Happy Halloween Friends!

Happy Samhain!

Happy Dia de los Muertos!

Happy All Saints Day!

Happy Scorpio season!

Each of these celebrations point to the thinning of the veil. The thinning of the veil refers to the energetic membrane separating the material world from the spiritual realms.

Among each of these celebrations we have secular, Christian, pagan, Celtic, Spanish, Aztec, Toltec and astrological traditions all surrounding a two day time of the year. Amazing, right?

Let’s unpack some of this, shall we?

Astrologically speaking, we’re in Scorpio season. Scorpio follows Libra season, the balance of light and dark. Beautifully aligned, Scorpio then merges the light and the dark. Scorpio is the sign of death, transformation and rebirth. When the Sun moves through Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 22), our collective energy turns to the unseen, the subconcscious.

Pluto and Mars are Scorpio’s ruling planets and both of these govern the underworld. Does this sound dark? It does’t need to. The thinning of the veil here is the ability to see beyond the conscious - what lies deep in our psyche. This is a great season to do some shadow work. Scorpio season supports this really well.

Shadow work is noticing those deep negative emotions or thoughts that crop up. Instead of doing the proverbial “sweep it under the carpet,” we can be courageous enough to look inside to see where these feelings or thoughts reside or originate and allow them a voice and eventually allow these shadows to merge and integrate within our heart. The shadows are illuminated and move into the Light! That doesn’t seem dark to me (but I hold a ton of Libra in my chart, so I will be a “Suzy Sunshine” about this. Ha!) However, realistically, it’s hard and brave work. I offer you a deep bow for even considering this.

This intense Scorpio season is perfect for each of the above celebrations.

Starting with Samhain (pronounced SOW-en). Samhain is mainly a Celtic tradition and it marks the transition from the light side of the year through growth and harvest to the dark side of the year; the dark, cold winter. During this celebration, bonfires were lit and people wore scary costumes. They believed the boundaries of the living and the dead were blurred during this time and ghosts of the dead would return. The purpose of their scary costumes was to keep them from being recognized by evil spirits or mischievous fairies and be taken away. The thinning of the veil was strongest at this time and the Celtic people protected themselves in this way.

Although Samhain is still celebrated today by many, Pope Gregory III moved All Saints Day to November 1 in the eighth century to counter the existing traditions of Samhain, turning October 31, the beginning of Samhain, to All Hallow’s Eve (translated as the day before the holy day) or, as we call it today, Halloween.

Just like the Celts, we wear costumes. Somewhere, deep in our collective psyche, we never let go of Samhain. The lines of identity are blurred and we can freely walk around as someone or something else.

Let’s move a couple paces over to Dia de los Muertos - the celebration of the Day of the Dead. This is a Latin American holiday of celebration for their loved ones who have passed on. This is not a day of mourning, but a day of remembering with joy. Although it is mainly celebrated in Mexico, it is also celebrated wherever there is a strong Latino community. Historically speaking, this celebration started with the Aztecs through a month long festival dedicated to Mictecacihuatl, the Lady of the Dead. Death was not feared, but rather seen as a continuation of life. When the Spanish conquistadors invaded, they brought their Catholicism with them and introduced All Saints’ Day into their festival. As we can see, the Indigenous essence of this celebration has remained strong. Interestingly, Mexico is geographically far, far away from Ireland and where Samhain was celebrated and yet, still, the Aztecs and the Mexican people felt the thinning of the veil here as well, during the same season; no social media, no phones, insight only.

Moving back to the thinning of the veil, we are currently experiencing an active sun with solar flares and geomagnetic storms. This affects the earth’s magnetic field, and, in my humble opinion, lessens the veil. This is a very intuitive time.

The science of the Universe is at work here as well. For centuries, the collective has been saying the veil is thin this time of year. This type of programming - written, spoken and felt - collapses thousands of quantum particles together to manifest a much thinner membrane allowing for strong intuition, insight and messages from the heavenly realm; whether it is a Higher Divine message or a loving message from your loved ones.

Take time to meditate and honor what your “gut” is saying or your intuition or signs from the Universe or God.

I found a ladybug in my Sacred Studio yesterday (also known as my she shed ;-). I looked up the message and it was really hopeful and beautiful. It poured here on the east coast of the US and when the rains were over I went back to my studio and covering the door were close to twenty ladybugs. This message of luck and complete transformation and patience was shown to me clearly. I was and am grateful. (and a bit icked, if I’m being honest. Ha!)

What are you noticing?

How are you feeling during this time?

Can you bravely address any fears or angers of your shadow self and bring them into the Light?

Can you look at transformation and death in a new way?

It’s all a continuation.

Friends, I send you love and joy as you celebrate your lovely traditions. No one tradition is better than the other, they are perfect just for you. Enjoy the messages from your Teachers, Angels and Guides, your Higher Intelligence, the Saints, the Universe and your Loved Ones. It is a magical time to be alive.

Much love,

Ellen x
