I would very much like to share what I experienced in meditation this morning. I completed my yoga practice from home today. It’s Monday and my to-do list was long. I love the benefits of practicing with a group of people and also practicing on my own. I added in a lotus mudra (a specific hand pose) through my practice today and used the Sanskrit phrase, Om Mani Padme Hum. This phrase translates as “the jewel in the lotus.” This phrase comes from Avaloketeshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. We are each the jewel in the lotus. The lotus or jewel grows in muddy waters and the lotus flower blooms from the gift and benefits of the mud. Similar to our days here on this earth.
As I completed my practice, I sat and meditated, chanting Om 21 times first. Chanting Om is like calling in our individual blueprint of our own unique spiritual signature and divinity.
I meditated.
Patajanli’s Yoga Sutras talk about “clearing or shining our Mirror” very early on in Chapter One. When we meditate, we are shining our own Mirror, giving us the ability to see our True Nature or Divinity, emptying the mental mind.
During meditation, I heard the words, “Be still and know I am God.” There was a grammar shift in this bible sentence, however. I heard, “Be still and KNOW I AM, God.” There was a command here - know I AM. I AM is similar to OM. I AM is your own God Self, your Mighty I AM Presence. We are all made in his/her/their image. We are all parts of the One. Our bible was originally written in Aramaic and there is an idea that not each word was translated in the way it was meant at the time. All of this is ok. We each take what we need, when we need, from any Holy Text in which we are devoted. For me, this morning, I heard, “Be still (meditate/get quiet/listen/be) and know/learn/understand Who You Really Are, God.”
Jesus (Jeshua as I know him) spend his last three years teaching what he spent his life learning. He taught. He was without ego, the Christ. Knowing this, he didn’t walk around telling people who he was. He showed them and taught them. Maybe this sentence, even though it came from Psalm 46, was Jeshua asking us to do our homework. Maybe this was a divine message of capital H, Homework.
Be still and know Your God Self.
There are so many ways to achieve this during the fall: take a walk outside, sit on the beach, listen to the leaves rustle, sit on a park bench, turn off the TV for ten minutes, close your eyes, hug a tree, take in a fall fire from inside or outside your home, FEEL. Picture yourself cleaning or shining your Mirror so you can see yourself more clearly.
Then -
Be Still.
And Know I AM
Love, God
It’s just spiritual grammar! (Now, go do your Homework ;-)
In gratitude,
